There are several factors that cause pool leaks. Let’s discuss the most common causes of swimming pool leaks in South Florida.
The first factor to keep in mind is the general wear and tear on a pool’s surface. Tears in the vinyl lining of a pool’s surface are a common cause of leaks in pools of this type. Such tears are often caused by sharp objects hitting the side of the pool.
It is also important to note, that if the leak is located on the pool’s shell, the pool’s material determines the expansion rate of the leak. To illustrate this, a leak caused by a tear in a vinyl pool will expand faster than a crack in a concrete pool. Cracks in a concrete pool’s surface can also be caused by wear and tear or sharp objects hitting the side of the pool. In addition, decorative tiles can become detached from the pool’s surface and lead to leaks. Moreover, loose railings, skimmer pads and other fittings can also lead to pool leaks.
Worn out pool equipment can also contribute to leaks. In other words, problems with the pool’s motor and pump due to wear and tear, can also lead to leaks. Furthermore, underground corrosion may occur over time and lead to underground leaks. Underground plumbing leaks are also commonplace in Fiberglass pools. Such leaks often lead to settling and saturation. As one might expect, underground leaks are harder to detect than those above ground. Particularly if the leaks are related to plumbing issues (given the intake and return lines are located below the pool decking).
